WHAT TO WEAR/WHAT NOT TO WEAR…..
                                                TO AN INTERVIEW
Now that I’m out of the traditional college setting and pursuing a career in the Fashion Industry, I often find myself stumped on what’s appropriate for the interview.
I often hit the hurdle of showcasing my strong fashion sense while remaining professional. Although it may be difficult, it is possible!
Most important tip: The Fashion Industry is extremely competitive so keep your “A Game” on the table! You are YOUNG, AMBITIOUS, & BEAUTIFUL…Prepare yourself, Impress the interviewer, and GET THE JOB!
The following list are my SUGGESTIONS and solely based on what has worked for ME!
1. Don’t forget that its an INTERVIEW….Professional is always the correct choice!
2. Research the company, not just on company facts, but be familiar with the atmosphere of the company, Don’t go to an interview at Neiman Marcus wearing every trend from the season…. show them that you’ll “fit” with the team.
3. Speaking of trends….just DON’T! No one wants to interview the “trend addict” for a professional position in retail.
4. If you interview with a specific designer, Fashion house, or self branded store….do not go with their brand on from head-to-toe. They will NOT be impressed!
5. If you’re like me, you love to accessorize…..but any interview is not the place, even if its for a “fashionable” position. Too many accessories are very distracting and gives off the impression of “trying too hard”.
6.
.  Needless to say…don’t dress too revealing! The interviewer will not put your resume on top because your top is low…if they do, you don’t want to work there anyway!
7. Make sure you are well-groomed from head-to-toe…Hair neat(reasonable color), clean and ironed clothes, neat manicure(short length, no bright colors), nice shoes(not too high of a heel)…and the be sure to wear STOCKINGS!!
8. Keep your make-up to a minimum…No bright eye shadow or extra long eyelashes!
9. Try much as possible to cover your tattoos, I know tattoos are much more common now so if it’s impossible to cover, make sure you have a logical and intriguing story behind your art….they WILL ask!
10. I have not forgotten that these tips are for careers in the fashion industry STYLISH and of course a your own spice! But don’t forget….Less is most definitely MORE!

I am Fashion!

My life 2 years ago compared to my life now….you wouldn’t even believe the transformation! I was trapped in a miserable world and I had no clue how I would ever escape. I was stuck where I thought was my only option, even though I knew it wasn’t my calling. I had tons of dreams but I lacked the action tool. I was determined to meet the expectations of others around me, I just didn’t want to let them down. I was afraid to step out of the box so I stay in a familiar, uncomfortable situation. On the journey to find myself, I got a tattoo of a heart inside of a star, that read “fearless”,I did not realize how much power was actually behind this illustration. I later began a mentoring program for teen girls called Young, Ambitious, & Beautiful. The impact YAB had on the girls was amazing! Inspiring people with such small gestures was the greatest joy of my life. Encouraging young girls to follow their dreams made me realize that I needed to do the same. One day while sitting on my couch, I randomly decided that I would not attend MSU any longer, I started an intense research on fashion schools and began to create my personal statement. From that very day, I began living my life if the Fashion World, two months later I was officially a student, studying Fashion Marketing and Management! While fashion had always been a major part of my life, I wanted it to BE MY LIFE! Every single day I researched, networked and began to perfect my craft. Here it is one year later….I am matriculating through my fashion program, I have held several intern positions, and I am the Co-Owner of The Style Dolls, a Wardrobe Styling and Image Consulting company.  I have several (secret) projects in the works and much more to contribute the Business of Fashion! I had a vision, I created a plan, I consulted God, I eliminated my fear, and I followed my dream! I realized my own potential of being a Young Ambitious & Beautiful woman!

“Fashion isn’t just about being cute, its my business, my lifestyle, its my career…. I am Fashion!”-Daisy
